MacKenzie entices her readers into a funny, romantic tale with her protagonists at cross purposes, sizzling sensuality, a touch of poignancy and a surprise twist. This all adds up to a delightful read.

Eight years ago Kit, the Marquis of Ashton, married Jessica after finding her in a compromising position with his cousin, Percy. Then Kit left her and rode off. Not getting any younger and heir to a duke, Kit now decides he needs an heir. Jess has read about his amorous exploits in the scandal sheets, and Kit’s heard all the gossip about hers. Jess makes him an offer: She will give him an heir, but first they must become reacquainted. Though they seem to be settling their differences, Kit wonders if he can trust Jess … especially when Percy reappears on the scene. (ZEBRA, Mar., 344 pp., $7.99)
