This fast, funny, frantic Vegas-set series offers great laughs as well as a compelling mystery and intriguing continuing characters. You’ll want to spend more time with Lucky, the daughter of a former madam and a mobster.
Lucky O’Toole is VP of customer relations for the Babylon casino resort. As usual, she seems to have a part-time job as detective. Called out of bed early, she finds a dead woman sprawled on the hood of a red Ferrari, a stiletto heel embedded in her neck. Lucky’s sometimes suitor Paxton Dane found her, and worse, Lucky is sure he isn’t telling her everything. Soon, she’s learning secrets she’d rather not know, finding more dead bodies and chasing down a perfect Vegas clue: a pair of Christian Louboutin red-soled shoes. (FORGE, May, 352 pp., $25.99)
