After her engagement party to celebrate her arranged marriage to Daniel Kincaid, Jenny Eriksen is kidnapped by a stranger, who turns out to be Daniel's foster brother.

Former bad boy/saloon owner Luke McLintock snatches Jenny to make Daniel return to Cheyenne and take responsibility for the recently orphaned son he never acknowledged. While he thinks Jenny would be a fine stepmother, he can't help being attracted to her himself.

Kate Bridges skillfully builds the tension of this kidnapping plot, blending movie-style action with traditional romance to create a very good story. However, the heroine never seems to actually be in danger, thus the plot device doesn't work as strongly as it should. SENSUAL (Sep., 300 pp., $5.25)
