Rose DuBois becomes a Harvey Girl to go West and find a rich husband. She certainly doesnt want to be attracted to Zach MacKenzie, a saddle tramp riding with a gang of rustlers.

Zach is actually on an assignment with the Texas Rangers when he rescues Rose from the gang leaders unwanted attentions. Zach cannot let go of his attraction to Rose, first only wanting to bed her and then wanting to care for her.

Rose catches the eye of wealthy rancher Stephen Rayburn, and though she is delighted, he doesnt make her heart sing the way Zach does. While Rayburn courts Rose, Zach fumes. He also suspects that Rayburn is involved with the rustlers.

A showdown leads to Zach and Rose fleeing by train with stolen money, setting in motion a chain of events that gives Rose a new understanding of the relationships between men and womenand the importance of love.

Ms. Leigh continues the MacKenzie saga, painting a colorful and exciting portrait of the growing West. Her characters continue to exemplify strong men and their equally strong women who love them. SENSUAL (May, 380 pp., $5.99)
