MAGIC AT THE GATE

Image of Magic at the Gate (Allie Beckstrom, Book 5)
Author(s):

The choices that face indomitable hound Allie Beckstrom are dark, but for love she will sacrifice whatever is necessary, and that’s not to mention her serious daddy issues. The talented Monk has created a heroine whose relationship with magic comes at a cost. Sides are being chosen in this war and Monk expertly ratchets up the tension, giving the book an ominous feel. It’s another excellent chapter in a truly addictive series.

At the end of the last book, Allie literally strode into death to rescue Zayvion Jones, her lover and a guardian of the gates. On her quest, Allie is accompanied by Stone, her gargoyle, and her deceased father. Since part of Daniel Beckstrom’s essence still resides within Allie’s consciousness, she doesn’t trust him, but she needs his help. The cost to free Zayvion is high, but Allie will pay, both for her own sake and because he is desperately needed in their upcoming magical battle. Having been betrayed before, Allie and her friends must determine who is on their side in this war. With the odds building against them, things are looking grim. (ROC, Nov., 368 pp., $7.99)
