He is known as Malcolm the Fierce, King Edwards right-hand man, and his liege has sent him to capture a traitor. She is Lady Elin, forced to accompany her father as he flees after plotting treason against the king and uses her as a bargaining tool: selling her to finance his treachery.
Elin knows nothing of her fathers betrayals, but when they are caught by Malcolm and his men she fights like a man to save them from capture. Malcolm is shocked to find her beautiful, rebellious and skilled with a sword, and thus when the kings nephew arrives claiming Elin as his betrothed, Malcolm refuses to hand her over without Edwards knowledge.
For his loyalty, Edward gives Elin and her estate to Malcolm. Not only will he be able to watch her, but he will control her lands, holding them for Edward.
Malcolm will have the castle, but he will have to find a way to tame his rebellious bride; the woman who has attempted escape and poisoned his men, yet healed him and others. She is an enigma to him, but he is a riddle to her. As each takes the measure of the other, slowly falling in love, their enemy plots their destruction.
The fast pace and action make MALCOLMS HONOR a quick read with plenty of battle scenes, kidnappings, verbal contests of will, treachery and passion. Though Ms. Harts use of repetitive plot devices is overdone, fans of medieval romance may enjoy Elin and Malcolms escapades. SENSUAL (Jul., 350 pp., $4.99)
