WITH MALICE

Author(s):

Homicide detective Karen Sweeney gets called in for two brutal murders in one night. An unidentified woman is discovered in an alley and an elderly woman who worked as a nanny had her throat slashed in the home of Senator Grant Lawrence. Karen is told to give priority to the latter. As pieces fall into place, there seems to be one common denominator between the women and the Senator.

Grant is shocked when his aide notifies him of the murders—even more so when he realizes the aide has tampered with the crime scene to protect Grant. Now he is stuck in a bind. There is nothing he wants more than justice for people he cared about, but he must also consider the living around him, the reputation of those who work with him, how his young daughters would handle a scandal that could touch their lives and what this would mean for his own political future.

Lee is definitely making a name for herself in the world of romantic suspense and WITH MALICE only furthers the cause. Her storytelling works on numerous levels, with well-defined characters, believable plot lines and plenty of excitement. (Feb., 384 pp., $6.50)
