Being kidnapped is traumatic enough, but to then be unceremoniously dumped because you're the wrong presidential daughter is just demoralizing! Darcy Jensen has left the glamorous White House spotlight to her sister, Lauren. Following the kidnapping, both of them get sent to undisclosed secret locations until the kidnappers have been caught.

As punishment for his men's screwup, Lt. Commander Joe Larson is forced to be the liaison between his recently discovered family, the Marcellis, and Darcy Jensen. It has been decided that the Marcelli vineyard is the perfect location for Darcy to stay while in hiding. Having some serious family issues herself, Darcy is quite sympathetic to both the Marcellis' need to bring Joe into their lives and his desire to remain aloof. With all these emotional fireworks, this enforced retreat certainly won't be dull.

Although humor is one of Mallery's biggest strengths, the deep resonance of her dramatic storytelling is a close second. The highs and lows of the Marcelli family saga have made this series extremely compelling and quite unforgettable. The bonus: Joe finally gets his due! (May, 352 pp., $6.99)
