In the second installment of Patterson's sci-fi YA series, 14-year-
old Max and her flock -- five other "human-avian hybrid" bird kids -- take to the skies to find their parents
and save the world. A stay at an idyllic Virginia estate, a detour to Disney World and to-the-death battles with the human-wolf hybrid Erasers are all in a day's work for the high-flying kids.

Younger teens will love this fast-paced and exciting adventure. Max is well drawn, but the other kids aren't as distinct. (May, 409 pp., $16.99, ISBN: 0316155594, 12 and up, HC)
