Book Four in the Dreamer's Cycle draws you into a dark world where treachery and hate reign and only the strong survive. Taylor weaves an intricate tapestry where the bright light of love pierces that darkness. Her characters are magnificent, whether wicked or benign. Reading the other books may provide a better understanding of this story, and the epilogue hints at another installment.

Arthur found the four requisite treasures and has been installed as the true High King. Havgan the Warleader pretends to the throne and holds the four kingdoms of Kymru prisoner. Young Arthur destroys Havgan's warships and launches a systematic campaign to reclaim Kymru, with the help of his uncle Gwydion the Dreamer. Each battle is played like a game of chess, each sovereign restored to his rightful realm. Enemies become allies as traitors abound. (MEDALLION, Oct., 414 pp., $15.95)
