MAYHEM

Fans of Arthur’s Mystyx saga will love the third installment, the first from a male perspective, which shines a different light on the previous books’ coming-of-age struggles. The conflicts between rich and poor, good and evil are nicely done here.

Book three of the Mystyx series about a group of teens with secret supernatural powers focuses on Jake Kramer, a boy from the poor side of the tracks. He has a rough time dealing with bullies, his growing powers and the need for revenge. When he’s tempted by evil to increase his powers and feed his anger, will his love for Krystal (another Mystyx) and the rest of his crew keep him on the side of good? (KIMANI TRU, Aug., 274 pp., $9.99, ISBN: 9780373229932, PB, 12 & Up)
