Rachel Carlyle meets her ex-husband's boss, Joe Mendez, in England when she learns he's to fly her daughter, Daisy, on a company jet to Florida to visit her father. There's an immediate attraction, but Rachel won't get involved with someone she thinks is a playboy. Then Daisy is in an accident, and Rachel rushes to be with her. Instead of her ex-husband, Joe's the one who's there for her. After an explosive night together, Joe disappears, and Rachel thinks he's lived up to his supposed reputation. In Mendez's Mistress (2), Anne Mather creates a true romantic hero who shows in all they ways that count that he's in the relationship for the long haul. Too bad the heroine doesn't have the confidence to enjoy the romantic ride until he practically begs.
