A MESSAGE FOR JULIA (4) by Angel Smits: Having moved out of the family home in despair a few months after a miscarriage sent their marriage into rocky territory, teacher Julia Holmes and her husband, mine inspector Linc, rediscover their love for one another when a mine cave-in leaves Linc and six others trapped. Smits does a wonderful job of writing tension so thick it’s palpable throughout the entire story. Julia’s motivation rings true both when she leaves home and when she’s in despair over Linc’s being trapped. Linc’s musings about his marriage also come across as quite real.
