Image of Midnight (A Dark Age Dawning Novel)

The middle book in Connor’s (aka Ann Aguirre & Carrie Lofty) post-apocalyptic trilogy revisits the world three years after the initial horrific “Change.” Chris Welsh was a secondary player in the first novel, but it is his exploits that are now examined. The authors’ writing styles blend together seamlessly, bringing forth a dark tale of endurance that manages to hang on to a flame of hope. A bare-knuckle struggle for survival gives this intense story poignancy and a gritty realism.

It has been three years since the world was rocked by the Change and society was destroyed. In the years since leaving his friends Mason and Jenna, Dr. Chris Welsh has wandered across the devastated wasteland and fought for survival. Then Chris stumbles across a battle-hardened haven of civilization in the form of Valle de Bravo. Run with an iron fist in a velvet glove by Rosa Cortez, Valle de Bravo is filled with soldiers who swear their allegiance to Rosa as they struggle to survive against the bloodthirsty raiders and hellhounds. For Rosa and Chris the sparks are intense, but Chris harbors a secret that could drive them apart. (BERKLEY SENSATION, Sep., 336 pp., $15.00)
