Woods delivers a charming novel, but readers may want to shake the hero and heroine — hard. Fortunately, the supporting cast of characters, as well as Woods’ unique blend of sparkling humor and family drama, compensates for the main characters’ lack of communication.

It seemed like Cinderella had married Prince Charming the day Karen Ames married Elliott Cruz. But a few years into their marriage, she is trying to figure out when they started drifting away from each other under the pressures of the real world. That is, until she finds out that Elliott has been planning to open a gym behind her back with their friends, and using their carefully saved “baby fund” to do it. Elliott simply wanted to spare her the worry until he had all the details worked out. When one miscommunication after another leads to a strain on their relationship, it will take a family crisis to make them stop and reconnect. (MIRA, Jul., 374 pp., $7.99)
