Midnight Sins is tense, dark, angry and full of sharp edges. Even the romantic moments are hard and unrelenting. Those who require a happily ever after will be satisfied with the conclusion, but those who require an answer to the “whodunit” may not be.

Cambria Flannigan’s girlish crush on Rafe Callahan was squelched the night her sister was murdered and people in town accused him. Though his name was quickly cleared, Rafe left town, having already enlisted in the military. Now he’s back and Cami’s crush has turned to lust. As they reunite, more murders rock their small town. All signs once again point to Rafe and his cousins. If the murderer isn’t caught soon, Cami may be the next to die. (ST. MARTIN’S, Aug., 352 pp., $7.99)
