THE MIGHTY QUINNS: ROURKE (3) by Kate Hoffmann: Readers meet Rourke Quinn in this simple yet romantic tale about a branch of famed Irish author Aileen Quinn’s long-lost family. He returns to the secluded Canadian island, Cape Breton, where he spent some time as a child, to deal with his uncle’s estate. He’s enchanted by Annie Macintosh, the island’s resident outcast. When a terrible storm hits, they spend simple and sensual time keeping each other warm in her dilapidated shack. Rourke becomes more laid-back and Annie becomes more accepting of contemporary lifestyles, sharing her artistic talents with the outside world. While Annie’s outlook is sometimes childish and unbelievable for this era, it fits well within the scenario.
