Book Review

by Sara Rosett

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth

RT Rating

Sometimes, a story with an average person solving a mystery can result in a character becoming annoying with incessant questions and amateur sleuthing that leads nowhere. But Rosett’s latest Ellie Avery mystery is less about solving a mystery and more about finding out the truth. The story becomes more about a woman trying to protect her family, and that’s a message most of us can relate to.

Ellie is prepared to spend a nice vacation with her family on the beach. But on the second day of the trip, she sees a woman get pushed off of a balcony. Then she becomes suspicious when Angela Day, a woman she buys purses from, goes missing. When Angela winds up dead and Ellie’s brother Ben gets kidnapped, Ellie finds herself running with tabloid reporters and dodging the police. The clock is ticking and Ellie must save her brother and catch Angela’s killer. (KENSINGTON, Oct., 320 pp., $7.99)
