Welcome to Moraine, Wisc., where Story Fischer runs the Wild Clover grocery and a small beekeeping/honey business on the side. It’s a place where the characters are as colorful as the rainbow, and the legend of the lantern man haunting the old logging road keeps the locals on their toes. This mystery has the perfect blend of humor and drama and a gutsy heroine who stumbles over dead bodies and clues like nobody’s business. Readers will be thoroughly entertained by this madcap mystery.
While holding a candle-making class at her small grocery store, Story Fischer runs across a woman who looks vaguely familiar. Later she learns the woman is Lauren Kerrigan, who killed the town’s police chief in a drunk-driving accident when she was a teenager. Lauren has returned to town and some of the locals are not too happy about that. When Lauren and another woman are later found dead, Lauren’s family is an uproar, and Story decides to investigate the mysterious Lantern Man who terrorizes the old logging road where they were found. Could this person be responsible for Lauren’s death? Or is it someone out for revenge? (PRIME CRIME, May, 304 pp., $7.99)
