This light and entertaining romp is entrancing from start to finish. The characters are lovable, and the plot is just convoluted enough to keep readers guessing. It's the perfect book to pick up at the beginning of the holiday season for a strong dose of Christmas spirit.

Elise leaves Harry Pennyngton, her husband of five years, because she's dissatisfied with their life together. She runs to Nicholas Tremaine, her one-time fiance and still best friend. Harry issues a wager to Nicholas, who loathes Christmas and all of its trappings: If Nicholas comes to the Pennyngton estate for Christmas and doesn't manage to wish Harry a Merry Christmas before he leaves, Harry will grant Elise a divorce so that she can marry again.

Meanwhile, Harry's half-sister Rosalind is serving as his hostess during the house party. Imagine the tangle when Nicholas invites Elise to accompany him, and Rosalind realizes that Nicholas was involved in the scandal that ended in her banishment from society five years ago!
