MISTRESS: AT WHAT PRICE? (3) by Anne Oliver: Betrayed by her former lover, fashion designer Mariel Davenport returns home to start her career anew. Sparks fly when she meets Dane Huntington, a childhood friend, at a party. Aggravated by the media circus surrounding him since being named “bachelor of the year,” Dane proposes a pretend relationship and soon they become lovers. But marriage is not on Dane’s agenda. Mariel, though, has other ideas. The plot and character motivations are somewhat contrived and inconsistent at times; however, likable characters with genuine chemistry make for a pleasing read.
