In Galveston, Texas to prove her grandfather didn't go AWOL from the Navy during World War II, schoolteacher Grace Stafford is diving the bay, searching for his missing plane when she runs into oil company manager Zeke Rosetti. Zeke needs Grace to leave so his company can start drilling and avoid losing tens of thousands of dollars, so he's forced to help her search for the plane. When the two become close, Zeke must tell her about his young son, who's deaf. A Mom for Matthew (4), by Roz Denny Fox, has characters with a depth not typically seen in short novels. The amount of research put into the book, both on deafness and underwater salvage, makes it an interesting read.
