Sheckley deftly executes an intriguing, inventive story that hooks you from the start with a plot that weaves together supernatural and contemporary worlds. With a strong heroine surrounded by distinctive, colorful characters and a good amount of romance, action and folklore, this is a tale that will keep readers enthralled.

Dr. Abra Barrow is settling into a normal life in the small town of Northside, working as a vet alongside her mentor and living with her new boyfriend and the various creatures he rescues. Life is as normal as she can make it in a town where there are humans who change into wolves every lunar cycle. She knows because she's one of them. Late one night, Abra encounters a mysterious creature that exposes her to a magical parallel world -- and a conflict that puts her life in danger. (DEL REY, Jul., 358 pp., $6.99)
