Book Review

by Rob Thurman

Genre: Fantasy, General Fantasy

RT Rating

This is a strong second volume in Thurman's series about the half-Auphe, half-human Cal and his human brother Niko. Cal continues to be a wonderful narrator, and his perspective on the world is one of the highlights of this book. The plotting is tight and fast paced, and the worldbuilding is top notch. The supernatural elements meld seamlessly into the gritty urban setting.

After saving the world from the depraved Auphe, Cal and his
brother have found new digs and a
new line of work: private investigations. However, one of their first cases -- which seems to be a simple fact-finding mission -- has complications that even they couldn't predict.

Cal finds himself having to go undercover with the the werewolf mafia to get to the bottom of the mystery and to rescue a girl named George, who just happens to be both the local psychic and Cal's love interest. (Roc, Mar., 352
