THE MORCAI BATTALION: INVICTUS
by Susan Kyle

Genre: Paranormal/Urban Fantasy, Futuristic, Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, E-book

RT Rating

This futuristic romance is action-packed and will please fans of Marcella Burnard and Katherine Allred. Readers new to the series will enjoy Kyle’s well-conceived universe and the different modes of government and acceptable social interaction that make for a wealth of possibilities in this tale. However, as this is the series finale, those who haven’t read the earlier novels may be a bit lost by the many different characters and groups that are not clearly explained. Additionally, the tale moves a bit slowly and some common genre tropes are used. Nonetheless, Kyle wraps up her series with a story that provides many of the answers readers have been asking and will have new readers going back to get the earlier books in this series.

The Morcai Battalion’s medical chief of staff, Dr. Madeline Ruszel, and the battalion’s commander, Dtimun, know that interspecies mating is forbidden. Nonetheless, they agree to get pregnant so that their cover will not be doubted when they mount a dangerous mission on a hostile planet. But Madeline is unprepared for the emotions that come along with her new relationship as Dtimun’s mate and mother of his child. The pair wrestles with their newfound feelings as they attempt to rescue an ally from a dangerous planet and secure the fate of the world as they know it. (LUNA, November 2010, dl. 6.99)
