THE MORCAI BATTALION: THE RECRUIT
The first of two planned sequels to Kyle's The Morcai Battalion (recently re-released under her Diana Palmer pseudonym) is rather disappointing. Kyle makes fundamental mistakes around military psychology and discipline, and her aliens don't really seem all that alien. The first half of the book is taken up with too much exposition, repetitive character development and very little conflict or plot.
Madeline Ruszel is one of only two medical specialists familiar with the anatomy of the feline aliens who call themselves the Cehn-Taur. The first human female permitted to serve as a member of the Holconcom unit aboard the Morcai, she persistently butts heads with Dtimun, the Cehn-Taur commander of the vessel. As the war against the reptilian Rojoks escalates, Ruszel finds her position within the unit threatened by a new recruit, and by the secrets she discovers about Dtimun that could destroy his career and end her life.
