MORE THAN A STRANGER
Knightley’s entertaining debut sparks the imagination, as she connects her story with snippets of letters — through which the characters begin a sweet, emotional, courtship. It’s the tenderness Knightley evokes, as well as her appealing characters, that wins our hearts. Readers will eagerly await the next Sealed With a Kiss novel.
When her brother announces he has a new best friend, 11-year-old Lady Evie Moore is furious. She writes to the interloper, Benedict Hastings, who finds a kindred spirit. Their five-year correspondence ends when Benedict leaves his past behind. Years later, Benedict needs a safe haven, and when Richard invites him home he gladly accepts. Evie finds the stranger intriguing. He is witty, handsome and has her dreaming of his kisses. In order to keep Evie safe, Benedict tries to deny his feelings, but he is lost to their youthful love. When a menacing enemy arrives, their lives and love are at stake. (SIGNET ECLIPSE, June, 352 pp., $7.99)
