MORE THAN WORDS
by Judith Miller

Genre: Inspirational, Historical Romance

RT Rating

The Amana community comes to life in Miller’s deft hands. Readers will want to struggle with Gretchen over her beliefs, but the subplots distract and slow down the story. Overall, fans of Amish and Mennonite stories will consider this book a good addition to the popular bonnet fiction subgenre.

The Amana community’s belief is that artistic expression outside the teachings of the Bible is a waste of time. But that doesn’t stop Gretchen Kohler from secretly writing poems and stories in her journal. When the charming Mr. Finley, a traveling salesman, encourages Gretchen to submit her journal writings for publication, she begins to dream of life beyond her small community. Gretchen puts her trust in Mr. Finley, but he’s harboring a secret that will turn her life upside down. When the Amana elders find out about her writings, will Gretchen lose everything she took for granted? (BETHANY HOUSE, Sep., 384 pp., $14.99)
