MRS. JEFFRIES AND THE MERRY GENTLEMEN
by Emily Brightwell

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth, Historical

RT Rating

Brightwell’s latest is a wonderful treat for the holidays. The excitement mounts as the staff traverses the neighborhood for suspects and information. This historical mystery blends Victorian charm with a ruthless crime. The results are thoroughly entertaining.

Mrs. Jeffries and the Witherspoon household staff are looking forward to a peaceful Christmas when a brutal crime shocks the neighborhood. Orlando Edison, a wealthy young man who made his living promoting foreign mining stocks, is found dead with a bashed-in skull. The Witherspoon staff uncovers plenty of suspects, including a group of angry financiers called the Merry Gentlemen, an American cousin who stands to inherit Orlando’s fortune and a mysterious young woman who was last seen arguing with Orlando. Can the Witherspoon staff solve the crime in time for Christmas? (PRIME CRIME, Nov., 288 pp., $23.95)
