Book Review

MY DEAREST NAOMI
by Jerry S. Eicher, Tina Eicher

Genre: Inspirational, Mainstream

RT Rating

This is a sweet book, but unfortunately it contains no real surprises. The characters don’t seem to evolve and are portrayed in a one-dimensional, completely predictable light. There’s no spunk, or plot, and this lack of dramatic tension leads to an ending in which everything turns out perfect, packaged in neat little boxes.

In this epistolary novel, Eugene and Naomi are separated for nine months while Eugene teaches school in Iowa. During their time apart they write letters to one another. Eugene writes about his experiences in a new environment, the students he teaches and the love he has for Naomi. She writes of her time in their Amish community and her concern that he will find someone else while they are apart. (HARVEST HOUSE, Jul., 336 pp., $12.99)
