The lines in the war between Magekind and Fiends continue to blur in the next installment of Jewel’s exhilarating My Immortal series. The protagonists in this drama have both suffered terribly, giving them a common ground and enemy. Jewel provides her fans with a terrific tale that has action aplenty and drama to spare. Great stuff!

It is the sacrifice of a mageheld fiend named Tigran that allows former human Grayson Spencer to survive and escape the clutches of the mage Christophe dit Menart. Durian is a former mageheld fiend, now expert assassin for the warlord Nikodemus. When Durian discovers Gray he is puzzled, for she has magic from both a fiend and a bit of Christophe. Durian makes a deal with Gray: He will teach her how to master her new magic if she will swear allegiance to him. Vengeance is what Gray wants, but killing Christophe will shatter the current uneasy truce. Of course, that’s assuming that everyone is playing by the rules. (FOREVER, Jan., 384 pp., $7.99)
