If Jane Austen had a penchant for writing about hot gay men with a futuristic twist, she might have written something like this witty, romantic story. It’s an unusual pairing of a Victorian setting on another plane, in the future. Though it may seem very odd, Langley’s writing melds these elements together seamlessly. The entire culture within the story is familiar enough not to need explanation, but different enough to warrant a small sense of surprise and a thrill every once in a while. There is something for everyone in this story: humor, suspense, a historical feel, new technology and, of course, plenty of sensitive, sexy men. Though there is nothing new about the plot or characters, Langley’s wit and smooth writing style make My Regelence Rake a delightful romance for the contemporary world.

“Pining” and “lovestruck” don’t even begin to describe how Prince Colton feels about the roguishly handsome captain of the guard. Sebastian Hastings, Lord Wentworth, on the other hand, is all business — and when he’s not, he’s all pleasure. Colton tries to refocus his energies into opening a stable, but that’s not exactly befitting the station of a prince, so the king calls in a chaperon: Sebastian, of course. Colton’s passion for horses inadvertently leads the real object of his affection right into his arms, albeit amid scandal.Though Wentworth wants to come clean with his new husband about a dark secret that may end their love, life just won’t cut either one of them a break.
