For brothers Isaiah and Tucker Coulter, running their own veterinary hospital is both time consuming and rewarding. As a favor to his mother, Isaiah agrees to interview Laura Townsend for a job.

Laura's life is nothing like she once dreamed it would be. Five years ago, she suffered a head injury during a diving accident and was left brain damaged and with aphasia. Laura has a special affinity for animals, so the kennel keeper job may be a perfect fit.

Working around both people and animals helps to restore Laura's confidence and salve her lonely spirit. Getting to know Isaiah also builds the foundation of a love that Laura fears must always be unrequited. While it doesn't take long for Isaiah to recognize what a wonderful person Laura is, he also learns there may be someone who is actively trying to sabotage her.
