THE NAUGHTY GIRLS’ BOOK CLUB
Genre: Mainstream, General Mainstream Fiction
The Naughty Girls’ Book Club is a fantastic example of how a book, or a series of books, can change your life. The characters are so diverse yet the author manages to bond them together through a love of the written word. Though the book takes place in the UK, the sights and sounds described could be any small town in America, making it feel totally accessible for any reader. Thanks to the “book club” theme, readers get the chance to not only read about the characters that Hart has created; they also get the added bonus of learning about other books that may be of interest to them.
Estelle Humphreys is a single mom looking for new ways to bring in some extra income through her coffee shop. When the local bookstore closes down, she comes up with the idea to start a book club. Gracie is a feminist with limited relationship experience. Rebecca is a newlywed who fears her sex life has already hit a dull patch. Sue is recently retired and frustrated with her husband for his lack of motivation. Shy, awkward and introverted Reggie joins the group for research for his thesis. With a focus on erotic novels, the book club connects this group of seemingly different individuals, who are transformed through the books they read and the camaraderie they create.
