A NECESSARY HUSBAND
by Debra Mullins

Genre: Historical Romance
Setting: Regency England

RT Rating

Penniless widow Lucinda Devering can only stare when the Duke of Raynewood's grandson barges into the ballroom. Larger-than-life sea captain Garrett Lynch demands his sister Meg, Lucinda's charge, return to America with him.

But Meg is determined to stay for her debut and that means Captain Garrett Lynch is staying too. From the instant he sets eyes on prim and proper Lucinda, Garrett decides he wants her and won't take "no" for an answer. He realizes Lucinda compromised her reputation once before and will never settle for anything less than marriage.

Garrett agrees to leave Lucinda alone until they reach London, then all bets are off and the games begin. While Garrett is wooing and winning Lucinda, her nefarious brother-in law, who's been trying to make Lucinda his mistress, sets his sights on Meg.

The delightful repartée between Lucinda and Garrett is a true high point in this charming, light read, but cannot enhance the stereotypical characters and predictable plotline. SENSUAL (May, 380 pp., $5.99)
