Upon her grandmother's death, Ally Jarrett gained three things: a fortune, her freedom and Mitchell Caruthers. Mitchell is a major pain in the butt, but even Ally has to admit that her grandmother's nerdy personal assistant is helpful with financial matters.

Wanting to follow her dream of becoming a wildlife photographer, Ally packs up and flies to Alaska. When Mitchell shows up shortly thereafter, claiming she forgot to sign some documents, Ally is suspicious.

P.I./bodyguard Mitch has no intention of leaving Ally alone. Her grandmother made arrangements for Mitch to protect Ally, and with shady "Uncle Kurt" making an appearance, the troubles are just beginning.

Outlandish situations and eccentric characters bring spice and humor to this story. Nerds are back in vogue, and Thompson is still their champion. (Feb., 416 pp., $6.99)
