After witnessing a murder, makeup artist Gillian McCormick leaves the country aboard a nerd-themed cruise ship. Thanks to her friend Cora, she is disguised as a Marilyn Monroe look-alike and accompanied by two private investigators, Dante Fiorello and Lex Manchester. Little do they know that the passenger list also includes a mobster targeting Gillian and the murderer himself, cross-dresser Neil Rucker.

Though in fear for her life, Gillian cannot resist Lex. He calms her with the touch of his lips. But pursuing a relationship could endanger both their lives.

Challenged with keeping her safe, Lex must control his desire for Gillian. In order to protect her, he knows he should distance himself emotionally, but the magnetism between them cannot be denied.

Thompson pens another cute story in the Nerd series. Though the plot seems fairly predictable, the adventure is fun and worth the read. With great characters, humorous dialogue and a hint of suspense, readers will overlook the story's predictability and enjoy the ride. (Aug., 384 pp., $6.99)
