This imaginative story is reminiscent of ones from the '60s and '70s. Though the worldbuilding is fascinating, the characters are difficult to empathize with, and in the end, readers won't really care what happens to them.

Sent to the planet Fresh Havens, Sheriff Talia Fortune is searching for Avenger, her adversary and lover in the cyberworld of Netherwood. She knows he's the one who has been sabotaging equipment on Fresh Havens, and soon she is in a forest that destroys all technology, left depending on only her physical prowess.

Within the forest she discovers Kovner, aka Avenger. He attempts to convince her that the Singularity -- the time when computers become supreme and humans are obsolete -- has arrived. Kovner is trying to save what is left of the human race, and he and those with him need Talia on their side. Can she turn her back on all she's learned and believe that humanity is worth saving?
