The characters of Brazos Bend are back
in Dawson's second novel about the Callahan brothers and their dangerous, romantic, always well-written, escapades. Many complications arise in this plot, but the narration remains smooth, the dialogue compelling and the attraction between the leads palpable.

Torie Bradshaw first meets agent Matt Callahan in a tropical jungle. She's there as a favor to her sister, but she doesn't realize how much danger her twin is in. Matt is also there to help Torie's sister, but his assistance quickly turns to trouble when there's not only a murderer in their midst but also fiery sparks between himself and the sexy photographer.

They all manage to flee the island, and when Torie realizes she's being hunted by a stalker, she turns to Matt for protection and, eventually, for passion. But is a real relationship, let alone true love, possible between two such intense, warring personalities? (SIGNET ECLIPSE, Oct., 336 pp., $6.99)
