Just as she's feeling charitable toward her soon-to-be ex-husband, Roger, teacher Clare Wilson finds him in the arms of his latest fling. Telling Roger off feels good ... but her venting has a price.

On her way home, Clare is badly
hurt in a car accident. Luckily cop Sam Jankowski is nearby and is able to quickly get help. Clare's recovery is slow, but helped quite a bit by Sam's attention and the unexpected reappearance of her former fiance's brother, Pete Rayburn.

Now a high school football coach, Pete's there for Clare as she takes baby steps toward her future. The only question is: Who will be sharing it with her, Sam or Pete?

As unpredictable and funny as life often is, this story is one most women will surely relate to on some level. The only problem is, it's sometimes a little disjointed. Plus, one wonders why Clare took so long to ditch Roger! (May, 384 pp., $6.99)
