This is a fascinating, slightly tongue-in-cheek behind-the-scenes look at news producing. But the romance takes a backseat to the heroine's struggle to report serious news and her family troubles. Still, the family dynamics are interesting, which is why the lack of explanation behind them is disappointing. The secondary characters seem to serve no real purpose except perhaps to make a political statement.

Investigative news producer Maddy Madison, stuck producing puff pieces, is suddenly in possession of a lead on a real news story and paired up with sexy photographer Jamie, who is to be married in three months. Soon she is in the field investigating drug smuggling, falling in love with the unavailable Jamie, working with a narcissistic news anchor and watching her divorced parents find new partners, all while keeping an eye on her 16-year-old sister.
