More war is on the horizon in this next chapter of Asaro's Lost Continent series. Many familiar faces return in a story marked with difficult choices, where the humanity of the protagonists shines through. Fans of this series will be intrigued by possible glimpses of what may lie ahead.

On her way to mage training, Allegra is kidnapped and taken to Jazid to be sold as a pleasure slave. Because of her golden hair, she is offered to both the vicious General Yargazon and the outlawed Prince Regent Markus Onyx. Despite her
confrontational nature, which is contrary to accepted Jazid female behavior, Markus buys her.

Markus treats Allegra with kindness, and once she meets his 9-year-old brother, Ozarson, she is more convinced
of his reasonableness. Unfortunately, Yargazon has set in motion events
that threaten to throw the entire region into a violent war. To save those she cares about, Allegra may have to push her mage gifts to the limit. (LUNA, Jul., 576 pp., $14.95)
