Amanda Devereaux is the "normal" one in her family. While the rest believe in and practice various paranormal exercises, all Amanda wants to do is get married and have a semi-sedate life.

When her eccentric family (including her vampire-hunting twin Tabitha) drive
off her sort-of fiancé, Amanda is a little resentful. Yet while doing a favor for Tabitha, Amanda inadvertently gets caught up in a deadly battle.

Approximately 2,000 ago, after being tortured and killed by the Romans, Kyrian of Thrace made a bargain with the moon goddess Artemis. In exchange for vengeance, he'd be given a soulless immortality and become a hunter of the Daimons—soul vampires—who stalk and kill humans. Dark-Hunters have similar characteristics and abilities to Daimons. Kyrian is currently on the hunt for a very old and deadly Daimon named Desiderius. Desiderius has powers and abilities that none of the others possess. Instead of killing Kyrian after their first confrontation, Desiderius instead handcuffs the Dark-Hunter to the human Amanda. Thus handicapped, Kyrian has to find a way to unlock the magical cuffs before both of them are killed.

If you love "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" or "Angel," then boy, is this the book for you! Author Sherrilyn Kenyon starts off her new Dark-Hunter series in great style. Original and complex, with well-defined world rules, the characters are unforgettable and the action thrilling. (Oct., 336 pp., $6.50)
