Graham really brings the red-hot romance and suspense in the latest installment in her Krewe of Hunters series. The mystery surrounds a heist more than 200 years old, with present-day implications thrown in. All of the characters in the book are extremely likable, with some returning favorites from past Krewe books. The ghosts are an interesting addition to the cast, as Graham adds romance to the story with a fantastic couple.

Sheriff Sloan Trent is dismayed to find a 200-year-old skull in the local theater, the Gilded Lily. Calling in a favor from friend Texas Krewe leader Agent Logan Raintree, he ends up with an FBI agent/forensic artist, Jane Everett. From the get-go, Jane and Sloan are skeptical of each other’s work, but there is an undeniable attraction between them. When a tourist turns up murdered in the desert, Jane and Sloan find themselves in the middle of a centuries-old mystery about a stagecoach gold robbery. Unfortunately, there are individuals in the present who would like to find the gold and they will do whatever it takes to get it — even commit murder. With past ghosts assisting Jane and Sloan, will they find the culprits before it is too late? (MIRA, May, 400 pp., $7.99)
