NO BOYZ ALLOWED

This is a fun story. Although Gem is angry and combative, she blossoms as the story proceeds. Her foster family is full of colorful characters. Ny’eem, her love interest, and Pop, her best friend, both have a positive influence on her. Of course, there is plenty of drama and no shortage of frenemies to deal with.

Gem and her little brother Malik have been bounced from foster home to foster home. Her new family (think Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns) is willing to open their home and hearts, if only Gem would drop the horrible attitude. Her foster brother Man-Man re-introduces her to Pop, who was her childhood best friend, and the other members of the Rich Girlz Club. The No. 1 rule of this club is that no boys are allowed to come between them. Easier said than done. (KTEEN, Aug., 244 pp., $9.95, PB, ISBN: 9780758241931, 14 & Up)
