Mistletoe and murder are the order of the day in this highly entertaining installment of the Pennyfoot Hotel mysteries.

Set in Edwardian England during the Christmas season, this novel follows Cecily Baxter, Pennyfoot's former owner, who agrees to manage the seaside resort during the holidays. Dead bodies start piling up the moment Cecily and her husband arrive at the hotel, now the Pennyfoot Country Club.

Ex-hotel employees are now guests, and many old friendships are renewed. Amid the decking of the halls, Cecily's guests get up to plenty of mischief, from high-stakes gambling to adultery and murder. Fascinating historical detail and an exquisitely clever denouement make this a perfect winter mystery. (Nov., 320 pp., $13.00)
