Banks' latest will have you riveted from beginning to end. Nonstop action, highly intelligent criminals, masterminded good guys and family drama will put this book at the top of many read-again lists.

Laura Caldwell and husband James Carter are the primary caretakers of Laura's family, which includes an elderly uncle, cousins and a cousin-to-be. War has been declared on the family because of lucrative land holdings, and problems arise when American mobsters, crooked government officials and a group of Jamaican mobsters (who happen to be members of their family) all decide that they should own the land.

When it seems that there's no way out of the situation they find themselves in, Laura's wits, matched with her husband's and her elderly uncle's, find a way. (Dafina, Sep., 240 pp., $14.00)
