NORTH COUNTRY FAMILY (4) by Lois Richer: Single mother Cassie Crockett accepts a job as a nurse at Lives Under Construction, a rehab facility for troubled boys. She meets pastor Rick Salinger, who gave his life to God to relieve the guilt he feels over losing his clients’ money in an investment ploy. Rick wants to help Cassie build a new life, but she is not sure she can trust him. She has no idea that Rick is to blame for the distance between her and her father. Richer’s characters remind readers that while our struggles test us, anger is poisonous to our spirits. Rick’s realization is a poignant one: If God has forgiven us, we should forgive ourselves.
