Book Review

by Melody Carlson

Genre: Inspirational, Young Adult

RT Rating

The second book in Carlson's series featuring the travels of 20-year-old Maddie and her journalist aunt Sid will help teens to gain insight into foreign issues. The locale is vividly described, albeit painted in a frightening way. The concerns about the country are heart-wrenching and will incite many prayers.

Maddie Chase and Aunt Sid head to Papua, where Sid is to write an article about the troubled country. AIDS is the leading cause of death, and there's little regard for human life in other ways. As Maddie struggles to see past her own fear, she wonders how to make a difference.

Maddie shares the love of Jesus with those afflicted by AIDS. God allows her
to see the beauty of the country, and her strength allows other Christians to imagine a more positive future for their country. (WATERBROOK, Feb., 240 pp., $12.99)
