NOTHING TO LOSE
Genre: Mainstream, Multicultural
Winters’ main characters have grown and matured in this insightful D.C. series installment, as have her storytelling skills. The drama is still there for those readers who crave it, but the story also has depth, multiple layers and passionate characters. The ending provides enough closure to please readers, but also enough mystery to get readers excited about the next book.
Lifelong friends Erica, Billie and Sherise have seen each other through tough times, and those times have not ended. Erica is trying to settle into her role as the illegitimate daughter of powerful D.C. politician Jonah Nolan. Working with him as he prepares to run for vice president exposes her to more secrets and reveals how truly dangerous he is. Billie is starting her life over with a new job and a new love. But when she is forced to work with her ex-husband, Porter, she can’t resist the temptation to exact revenge for the trouble he’s caused. A surprise pregnancy throws Sherise and husband Justin for a loop. Though they initially wanted to expand their family, there is still distrust in their marriage, and an outside force may cause more problems than they’re prepared to face.
